Our inner old person may be silently screaming, ‘How is it 2018 already? Where does the time go?’ but our outer most fabulous person is saying, ‘Oh hey new hair’. Because a new year brings with it a whole host of new hairstyles and hair trends just waiting to be experimented with. We’ re only three months into 2018, and we’ ve already fallen in love with more hairstyles and colors and you will, too, once you see the vibrant lilacs and raven blacks that are about to fill your feeds. So to help you get ahead of the trends, we broke down the most worthy looks, below.
Big And Bouncy
The big, bouncy, blowdry has had a triumphant return to fashion week shows and celebs everywhere. No longer, ‘uncool’ , glossy, glamorous hair that looks seriously healthy is back in.
Undone Wet Look Hair
Wet look hair might not be anything new but there’s a 2018 twist on the look you need to know about. Once poker straight and stuck to your head, wet look hair has been set free and given an injection of texture. Leave it loose and tousled for this year’s update.
Keep The Curls
With 2017’s obsession with curly and natural textured hair not going anywhere, 2018 is all about upping the ante and getting those curls bigger and even better. Leave the relaxer at home and embrace your kinks and coils – curly girls this is your year.
If you’re looking for an intermission from of all of the ’90s beauty trends that have made a comeback this past year, super-long Cher hair is your answer. The ’70s-inspired hair length can be easily achieved by clipping in a set of extensions, but if you want to grow your hair out, don’t skip on routine trims to keep split ends under control.
We’re calling it: Curtain bangs like Kirsten Dunst’s are going to be to 2018 like side-swept bangs are to the early 2000’s. The style is up 600 percent in search on Pinterest. If you’re not ready to part with your current cut just yet, this versatile fringe style is a simple way to update your look. Don’t let these retro bangs intimidate you: Since curtain bangs are parted down the center and longer to begin with, it’ll be easier to avoid any awkward stages when you decide to grow them out.
Blunt Bob With Bangs
The natural progression of the lob is taking your length up an inch or two into a bob. If you want to change your look even more drastically, add a set of blunt bangs like Kerry Washington’s full fringe.
Time to change your color up
If the streets and runways of fashion month mean anything (they mean everything), bright lilac hues are about to infiltrate your friend group. Surprisingly, the shade is pretty easy to wear, thanks to its color-correcting blue undertones, which give your skin an overall brighter appearance.
We took a a much-needed breather from platinum last year, but predict 2018 will see a steady uptick in Ice Queen–level white-blonde. At this rate, it’s safe to say this shade will carry us into the new year—and yes, we’re already thinking of that far ahead.
Good news for your inner emo kid: Rich, jet-black hair will be covering the heads of some of your favorite celebrities this year, and we’re not just talking about Pete Wentz. The 2018 take on the trend reads less Hot-Topic-enthusiast and more badass-hair-chameleon, especially when coupled with a choppy lob (à la Nina Dobrev).
We hate to say it, but the soft, strawberry-blonde hues and rose-gold highlights of 2017 are already slipping into the ether of forgotten hair color trends. But don’t freak, pink lovers—they’ll be replaced by deeper shades in the same family, like fiery crimson.
Warm, honey shades continue to reign as this year’s most sought-after blonde, and you’ll be seeing a spike in sun-kissed golden-ombre hues come summer. And with grungy, exposed roots still in style and acting as the ultimate grow-out disguise, blonde has never been so low-maintenance.
